I host an informal reading group for Marquette University students who would like to learn more about medieval literature and language outside of the set curriculum. We meet once a week throughout the year and enjoy great literature, obscure grammar, sonorous (and not so sonorous) words in delightful dead languages, and a community of others who have a passion for old literature in the original languages. Any and all students at Marquette are welcome to join us; contact me for details.
Texts read in past terms:
Old English: Beowulf, The Wanderer, Deor, Wulf and Eadwacer, Battle of Brunanburh, Caedmon’s Hymn, The Seafarer, The Rune Poem, The Coronation of Edgar, The Death of Edgar,The Old English Boethius.
Middle English: Gawain and the Green Knight, Chaucer’s House of Fame, Chaucer lyrics.
