I host an informal reading group for Marquette University students who would like to learn more about medieval literature and language outside of the set curriculum. We meet once a week throughout the year and enjoy great literature, obscure grammar, sonorous (and not so sonorous) words in delightful dead languages, and a community of others who have a passion for old literature in the original languages. Any and all students at Marquette are welcome to join us; contact me for details.
Texts read in past terms:
Old English: Beowulf, The Wanderer, Deor, Wulf and Eadwacer, Battle of Brunanburh, Caedmon’s Hymn, The Seafarer, The Rune Poem, The Coronation of Edgar, The Death of Edgar, The Old English Boethius, The Wife’s Lament.
Middle English: Gawain and the Green Knight, Chaucer’s House of Fame, Chaucer lyrics.
